Who might benefit from this treatment?
Stress
Whether you've been undergoing symptoms of stress for a while or shortly, there have definitely been cortisol and adrenalin (stress-hormones) involved. This creates an environment within the body, where there's a high risk of inflammation. The more the emotional aspect of this is taken into consideration, the more healing can take place.
In this case "healing" means being able to hear your body and take in the information it's giving you. With a holistic treatment, there is no mind and body. There is just you. As a whole.
Anxiety/depression
Anxiety and depression is often caused by the same chemical reaction and can therefore often be treated in similar ways. Whether you mostly feel anxious (hightnened emotions) or depressive (low emotions), the solution will most likely lie in figuring out what's being repressed.
You most likely have a completely normal response to an abnormal thing that happened in your life, and this is now causing these moments of disconnect. This treatment will help you re-connect. Both physically by touch but also through conversation.
Trauma
In western medicine, the individual is often separated from the environment (and their body) which can make it almost impossible to find a treatment for PTSD-like symptoms. In holistic therapy there is focus on how the emotions have an impact on the physiology of your entire being as a living organism in imbalance.
Getting comfortable and (re-)acquainted with the body is completely necessary to get better and heal from trauma. A clear disconnection from your self is the most basic manifestation of trauma. So you will need to reconnect. This can happen here.
What happens during a treatment?
Before your deep tissue massage, your massage therapist will want to know about your problem areas. A deep tissue massage most often involve just one area per treatment.
Once ready, you’ll be asked to lie on your back or stomach, under a sheet or a blanket. Your level of undress is based on your comfort and what's agreed upon. The area being worked on will not need to be fully exposed if uncomfortable or simply not necessary for the therapist to do their work.
The massage therapist will let your tissues, energy and body get used to their presence by using subtle techniques of touch to soothe the vagus nerve and get familiar. If there's accept and readiness from the body, the touch and techniques might change shape to target different tissues. Of course all depending on what you've requested and how you're feeling as client. This treatment is for you first and only!
As your relationsship and trust evolves with the therapist, there will most likely be more breath involved, different techniques, which will lead to different/deeper sensations and more lasting results. Think of the treatment as a companionship that requires willingness and openness from both parties involved.
Side effects?
It’s not unusual to have some lingering soreness for a few days following a deep tissue massage. Using a heating pad or a cold pack wrapped in a towel may help to relieve soreness.
Due to emotional pain or old traumas hidden in the body, some people will also experience a emotional relief and might walk around in the world a bit more careful for a few days after treatment. If this is the case, your massage therapist will talk to you about ways to approach this the gentlest way possible.
Things you need to know
This treatment can be intense both emotionally and physically, so open communication with your massage therapist is super important. If you're scared, feeling unsafe or not ready to feel certain things out, please communicate this clearly, so the treatment can be adjusted to meet you exactly where you're at!
Let's talk about it if you're in doubt! You're always welcome to reach out.

Who's your therapist / philosophy
Nanna's background as a physiotherapist gives her a solid foundation in anatomy, physiology and neurology. What this means is, that you can expect a vast ocean of knowledge when it comes to the many layers
of bodily landscapes.
Nanna's approach to physiotherapy have never been conservative, which especially means that she doesn't see one part of the body as separate from the mind, the heart of the environment. This comes to show both through many different hands-on-techniques ("not everything can be PUSHED into health"), a focus on breath and a deep respect for traumatic events. Both in terms of physical or psychological scars.
